Video This Quarter

This quarter of school, I went into the video strand of Olathe Northwest's e-Communications program. I learned many different things in this class that will help me to actively pursue a role in video, these things were the six shot system, the impact of audio or music in a video or short, and shortcut keys I can apply in editing. If you wish to find out more about those specifics please watch the above video. I also mention in this video that I learned things about how I communicate with others and how others communicate with me and talk about how I learned the most about social dynamics. I hope to use these newly acquired social skills in my everyday life and in all of my classes, not just in e-comm or school. I can't wait to begin creating more of my own videos for youtube and the world to see.

The Chase Scene

During this project I learned that I must record my shots for a longer amount of time in order to make them look better. I also learned that when you are in a group it is hard for everyone to agree on just one vision for a video. I will apply my editing skills and my framing to the video in order to continue to improve upon what I have already learned and applied to this video and the videos previous. The collaboration in this video was completely different because when there are 3 people and they are all creating one video it makes it harder to collaborate. For my next project I hope to get along a little better with my actors or peers because it will help me create a better video. This will allow for better overall shots and a much better overall video production and feeling.

2 Actions w/ Ava Yerkes

While filming this project I learned that I must be creative with my shots and how I get them. I may need to use books to support my camera instead of the tripod because i want to be much lower to the ground in comparison to the height of the tripod. I also learned that when you tell your subject what to do you must be very clear about that you mean. For my next project I hope to add creativity and make my shots look much nicer than they do now. Our group did worked well together and collaborated, or cooperated, with each other extremely well. The group had a friendly air and allowed for both of us to be quite comfortable in our space. I believe if we worked together again I believe it would work out just as well as it did previously. Overall, I enjoyed this project and my group.

6 Shot System Video

The video above shows one continuous video using shots from a system. These shots are:
Extra Close Up - A shot that show detail and what the hands are doing
Close Up - A shot that shows just the subjects face and their emotions
Over The Shoulder - A shot that shows what the person is doing while showing the back of their head
Medium Shot - A shot where the subject is shown from the waist up
Wide Shot - A shot with someone's whole body shown and what they are doing with little background
Extra Wide Shot - A shot showing the whole subject and their surroundings

While doing this project I learned how to use the six shot system and why it is used. I also learned how to import music from a new website. I will use the newly learned system and the sounds and music in all of my upcoming videos by putting all of the clips into a nice order and creating a well-made story.

Highlight Video

    This is my YouTube highlight video. I created it by getting clips off of the internet along with music and adding them into Final Cut Pro. In Final Cut Pro, I learned how to cut videos in half using the blade tool, I learned how to disconnect audio from video in order to add my own audio, and I learned how to use the placement toll to move clips to anywhere on the timeline.

    I chose this hobby because it is one of my true passions. Many times when I am bored or feeling down, I pick up one of my guitars and just play. It is a way for me to express myself and I love learning new chords or riffs. Seeing my ability blossom as I go is also a great experience, going from novice to a more intermediate player was amazing. It is important to me because I can let out anger or pain without hurting myself or others and helps me get through rough times. Sometimes my guitar is my entire life. Overall, music is my life, bands, trumpet and guitar are my life. That is why I chose this hobby to showcase.

Dreamweaver Website

Dreamweaver Website:

The scope of this project was to create a simple website using basic code within Adobe Dreamweaver. When making this, we followed directions with a little of our own creative flow. We followed directions not because we didn't want to be original, but because we didn't know how to use the program or how to create a good website. As I went I learned that in Dreamweaver you can use two different windows to view and edit your website. I also learned that in coding there will be different tags to classify certain things.

Next time I hope to change the color scheme, add more links, and add more information. I would do this to add detail to my website and make it worth visiting. The things I want to keep would be the copyright at the bottom of the page and the changes in how links are colored. I would do this because it makes the website more dynamic. I hope that next time I remember all the different tags such as heading and paragraph. In the end I enjoyed viewing the final product and seeing my working links.

Dream House SketchUp Project

Dream House:

The scope of this project was to make a house that you would personally want to live in. We did have certain requirements for our houses, but most of the details were our choice. We were required to have a sloping roof and overhangs for our house. Before just creating a random house, our class looked at a website for different houses and their layouts. This helped most of us to start thinking of things for our houses and ask allowed us to use already designed houses that we could create in the program. When we began creating the house, we had to know what dimensions we wanted so that the house would be to scale. Then, based on other houses viewed, we began creating our house using the various tools. As our houses began coming together we added details such as windows, doors, and colors. When the house itself was completed, many of us added small components to the outside, I added a bush on the side of my house and a small pool of water.

When I had finished, I looked over my product and found things I wanted to change. I added different colors and put small borders for my windows to make them pop more, I also made my bushes shorter so that the viewer will see more of my house, rather than seeing bushes. As I went I learned that smaller details matter more than large scale ones. Simply adding detail onto my door improved my house more than the bushes ever would. Within the software I learned that having something like a cone or dome is very challenging to make. I also learned that adding in too many components will slow down the program and also show that one did not put in much effort into adding their own details. All I imported was an acoustic guitar which is not pictured here.

For the next time I create something in this program such as a house, I would make the house a little bit larger and not nearly as tall. I would also add more house details such as a hose. I would want to add these things to add a sense of realism to my project. I would probably keep my window and door styles very similar because I made them pop and look nicer on the house. From this experience I hope I take things such as color scheme for my house. I would also like to take the understanding of scaling objects with me for the next project. For this being my first time using the program I believe the house was a nice way to finish. It was simple and elegant and didn't take away from any parts. Overall I enjoyed this project and found it drawing out my creative side.
