Throughout the semester we had to work on planning with a partner who we had to have with us to film our project. One of the most difficult challenges I faced was getting a time where both Rosie and I were free to film her golfing. It was challenging because we couldn't film on campus and were forced to go to a real course. I had to take time out of my Saturday and then had to come in before school the following Monday in order to complete the project. It was challenging and extremely stressful although I did enjoy the act of filming and getting the fresh air that accompanied going out to get my shots. For my final I had to work with another student and film the three concerts (orchestra, choir, and band). Unfortunately it was hard to get my partner to contribute as he would be on his phone often. I wrote the six word memoir, wrote and rewrote the interview questions as I tried to make them get good answers, filmed half of the orchestra concert and all of the choir concert, got the interview necessary, and edited the entire final product. I also had to plan everything and sometimes I didn't know if he was coming or not due to a lack of communication. I was very frustrated when he did not come to the band concert and did not communicate it to anyone. I am in band so I could not get the footage needed for the project and was counting on him to pull through and get a little B-Roll. I did not find out until two days later that he had not even picked up a camera after school to try and get the shots. He had to pay someone to give us the band footage seen here. Further I had to get the interviews and let him sit on his phone more because he had left his ID, SD card and wallet at home. Most of my partners, however, have been cooperative and even some people that aren't in my group or even close friends with me were willing to lend a helping hand in order for me to complete my project with the proper footage and the necessary elements for a professional final product.
The overall projects worked relatively well. The events played out as predicted allowing for me to easily get the footage needed. Unfortunately there were small issues every once in a while with the equipment, such as a leg of a tripod being unable to lock and stay in place, or a camera being stuck on autofocus and not allowing one to use the manual focus ability. The final group as a whole had many issues of people not liking one another and having to work around it. Some did better than others and I tried to keep my partner from getting too angry at others in order to keep the group running smoothly with less unnecessary conflicts. I was somewhat successful when in person but he made some problems on the group chat and was removed twice by others because of his insults to others or because of his use of the chat for personal talk and not professional questions or problems.
During this semester I learned a lot of things. I learned that sometimes you must get into someone's personal space to get a good close up. I learned that having a well thought out shot list allows for filming to go more smoothly and that knowing possible angles helps you see the final product before even starting editing. I also learned how to add lower-thirds text to help identify an interviewee when they are on-screen. I also learned how to hold a camera if a tripod is going to take too long to set up or get in the way and how to position people in interviews. In addition, I learned that good communication goes a long way when collaborating with others students and also instructors. Keeping everyone in the loop keeps everyone happier and more prepared for upcoming events. Project management is also a skill that is extremely important in this strand. If you mismanage after school time or shooting time you may end up with a poor product or you could end up going back and spending more time than was necessary or wanted on a project in order to put out something good.

I do hope that in free time, if I would like to, I can work with the equipment I have to create videos I enjoy and appreciate to help hone my skills with J and L edits as well as B-Roll framing. I hope to learn from previous mistakes in the program and to use the soft skills developed in my everyday life.
