Graphic Design Final

We were to make two different business cards and one postcard. The business cards were supposed to illustrate who we are and what we do while still looking business-like. I decided to become a composer for this project. My pattern design included orange and gray stripes to connect with my hair and look as well as being simplistic and strong to show my ideology. The postcard was a quote by Jimi Hendrix who has inspired me in my guitar ventures. It displays how music is an outlet and helps people to feel better. Whether playing it or listening to it, music helps us feel free and I wanted to put that on paper.

Video Semester Reflection

Throughout this semester I learned how to use editing software and cameras to create news packages. We were introduced to more expensive and better quality cameras at the beginning of the year and we were taught how effectively use them to frame and get accurate shots. We also learned about microphones and the use of different pics depending on the scenario and the availability of the equipment. We learned that sometimes a tripod and microphone inhibit you more than help you. We developed the ability to become our own tripod to steady the camera and keep the shots steady. Then we moved to developing interviews that look good using J and L edits to keep the viewer entertained. We went over how long each B-Roll shot should be on-screen and that there should be a small amount of nat (natural) noise to contribute to the setting of the package. We started with an assignment to prepare us for using the tripods and cameras in which we were to demonstrate the way to properly perform a procedure around the building. It helped as to become familiar with equipment and review editing skills. We then moved on to a project without video, only audio, to work on getting microphones set up and develop our storytelling skills. We finalized our abilities with the cameras and microphones by filming someone's hobby and interviewing them about it. We finished up by getting the editing skills necessary to keep the audience entertained and moved on to the next project. The last project we did before the final was our blood drive video. It was to really develop the ability to film without a tripod and do things on the go. It was our final test of proficiency and ability before the final.

Throughout the semester we had to work on planning with a partner who we had to have with us to film our project. One of the most difficult challenges I faced was getting a time where both Rosie and I were free to film her golfing. It was challenging because we couldn't film on campus and were forced to go to a real course. I had to take time out of my Saturday and then had to come in before school the following Monday in order to complete the project. It was challenging and extremely stressful although I did enjoy the act of filming and getting the fresh air that accompanied going out to get my shots. For my final I had to work with another student and film the three concerts (orchestra, choir, and band). Unfortunately it was hard to get my partner to contribute as he would be on his phone often. I wrote the six word memoir, wrote and rewrote the interview questions as I tried to make them get good answers, filmed half of the orchestra concert and all of the choir concert, got the interview necessary, and edited the entire final product. I also had to plan everything and sometimes I didn't know if he was coming or not due to a lack of communication. I was very frustrated when he did not come to the band concert and did not communicate it to anyone. I am in band so I could not get the footage needed for the project and was counting on him to pull through and get a little B-Roll. I did not find out until two days later that he had not even picked up a camera after school to try and get the shots. He had to pay someone to give us the band footage seen here. Further I had to get the interviews and let him sit on his phone more because he had left his ID, SD card and wallet at home. Most of my partners, however, have been cooperative and even some people that aren't in my group or even close friends with me were willing to lend a helping hand in order for me to complete my project with the proper footage and the necessary elements for a professional final product.

The overall projects worked relatively well. The events played out as predicted allowing for me to easily get the footage needed. Unfortunately there were small issues every once in a while with the equipment, such as a leg of a tripod being unable to lock and stay in place, or a camera being stuck on autofocus and not allowing one to use the manual focus ability. The final group as a whole had many issues of people not liking one another and having to work around it. Some did better than others and I tried to keep my partner from getting too angry at others in order to keep the group running smoothly with less unnecessary conflicts. I was somewhat successful when in person but he made some problems on the group chat and was removed twice by others because of his insults to others or because of his use of the chat for personal talk and not professional questions or problems.

During this semester I learned a lot of things. I learned that sometimes you must get into someone's personal space to get a good close up. I learned that having a well thought out shot list allows for filming to go more smoothly and that knowing possible angles helps you see the final product before even starting editing. I also learned how to add lower-thirds text to help identify an interviewee when they are on-screen. I also learned how to hold a camera if a tripod is going to take too long to set up or get in the way and how to position people in interviews. In addition, I learned that good communication goes a long way when collaborating with others students and also instructors. Keeping everyone in the loop keeps everyone happier and more prepared for upcoming events. Project management is also a skill that is extremely important in this strand. If you mismanage after school time or shooting time you may end up with a poor product or you could end up going back and spending more time than was necessary or wanted on a project in order to put out something good.

Unfortunately I will be unable to improve upon these skills within class next semester as I am no longer going to be involved in the e-Communication program. I do hope that in free time, if I would like to, I can work with the equipment I have to create videos I enjoy and appreciate to help hone my skills with J and L edits as well as B-Roll framing. I hope to learn from previous mistakes in the program and to use the soft skills developed in my everyday life.

Majestic Cow

We were to create a shadow on photoshop with a can of coca cola. We followed a tutorial and then we were to make our own shadow on the object of our choice. I chose to use a cow for my own shadow creation.

NBC Logo

When we were working on making our own logo we were instructed to research famous logos and create them. I did not originally have a good logo to choose, but I decided on the NBC logo because of the detail involved and the level of understanding required to create it. I enjoyed making this and learned a lot about fonts and colors for the logo itself.

Clipping Masks

After Thanksgiving break we began working on clipping masks and layer masks. They were to give more depth to either text or an image/design. It helps convey the message that the designer is hoping for. We were to do three out of the five tutorials downloaded and each were specified by our instructor. These included the scuba, corn, and girl on the swing. The swinging girl also taught us about radial blurs a little and the corn helped us understand how to effectively use a gradient. We were then to design two more things on our own using clipping masks and layer masks. I created the word basketball with a basketball pictured within it and also created an image of the Beatles with another photo within the lettering "artists."

Painting A Picture

For this project, we were to understand the different uses of the paint brush and the different brush styles. We were also to experiment with mixing colors to create others. One mixing colors we created a brush of our own and began painting a wooded area.At this point a tutorial was still supplied. Once finishing this to a good degree we were to move on to a picture we chose and paint that. I chose a sunset. My goal was to blend the already mixing colors even more than they were to create a beautifully colored painting. The result was not bad as I had added highlights to the lighter parts and darker parts of the image before I began the larger scale blending.

Personal Logo

In graphic design, we were to create our personal logo. I made a few different styles to give a variety of ideas with pencil and paper first before moving on to computer designs. A few basic ideas of the designs were put down on paper but evolved once I placed them onto the computer. One involved and avatar for the "i" that represents me with my red hair and glasses. The gray "Mitchell" was my final product of this idea. Reed Rock was one of the better representations. My middle name is Reed and I listen to rock and roll as well as metal. While I made black designs, I prefer either in red. The MH simply involved my initials in a circle. It was a little simple for my taste but had straight edges while still flowing together.

Floating Mountain

This was a lesson in photoshop that was to teach us how to place objects seamlessly into photoshop pictures. We were to create a floating mountain in the given sky photo and then add a couple more objects and title the piece. The project showed us how to remove pixel fringe effectively to make the added items look realistic in the environment. We also learned how to add coloring to help make lighting more realistic as well. I titled my work Brilliance because of the look of the piece and the layout of it. I also added the airplane to add a little more realism to the height and environmental factors. The lightning was to add intensity and intrigue the viewer.

Constructive Blood Drive Reviews

Evan

Positive - The concept of when, where and why the blood drive was happening was well conveyed and understood by me.

Constructive - As with many of the other students as well as myself, the audio levels of the video could have been made more similar to one another.

Courtney

Positive - The stories that you selected were told well and kept the viewer entertained.

Constructive - The interviews seemed to be good, but did not flow together. This forced you to chop and splice them together which makes it hard to concentrate on the interesting story presented.

Nic

Positive - The shots you used in your B-Roll were nicely varied to keep from seeming repetitive or similar to other videos.

Constructive - The beginning nat noise was a little too extended. I would shorten in by maybe 1/2 a second or so just to grasp the viewer more quickly.

Dema

Positive - The voice overs provide good transitions to the next interview pieces.

Constructive - Some of the shots seemed too long and made me lose interest or the shots were so fast I wanted to go back and play it over to see what was being put on the screen. Just lengthen or shorten accordingly.

Allison

Positive - Your audio levels were some of the best in the class, they were kept equal throughout and didn't distract from the story.

Constructive -Your voice overs sometimes seemed to almost get cut off by the interview soundbites, just give the voice overs a little more time.

Rosie

Positive -The story and angle you had was unique and interesting and kept away from the overly common theme while sticking to the main ideas.

Constructive -The voice overs and interviews both seemed to be tinny sounding. I'm not quite sure how to fix this or if it was a speaker issue, but I would ask to make sure.

Kyrsten

Positive -The voice overs you recorded were well put together and had the right amount of emotion to keep the viewer intrigued.

Constructive - At the conclusion of the package something was played or said that I couldn't hear very clearly and it seemed quite abrupt.

Rylee

Positive - You explained the overarching idea from all aspects quite well and with precision while still keeping the viewer engaged and interested.

Constructive - Some of the interviewees names were not listed, not a fix for post-production. Ask before you interview in order to know what it is if you don't already know.

Catherine

Positive - The interviews mixed the different personal stories to have a heartwarming story while showing each person is not alone.

Constructive - The voice overs seemed stale. As though you were tired of the story and the experience. Just put a little emotion into recording.

Alex

Positive -Your story was quite feel-good and helped to instill a good feeling about the blood drive and the experience involved with it.

Constructive -Your voice overs seemed uninterested, like you didn't care as much as the interviewers or viewers did. A little vocal emotion is necessary to tie this story together.

Mitch

Positive - The story had a good feeling associated with it, between giving and saving lives.

Constructive - Audio levels were off and a random bit of nat noise interrupted a voice over and made it completely inaudible.

Nicole

Positive - The video was informative on what the blood drive was while still telling the personal stories of those involved and kept the overall feel heartwarming.

Constructive -You were looking down on the interviewee with not only your person, but also the camera.

Drew

Positive - The video made the viewer feel comfortable while not coming off as unprofessional or sloppy.

Constructive -The biggest issue with this package is that it is missing the core aspect of telling a story, interviews. Only one was either obtained or used and almost blurred the focus of the story.

Emily

Positive - This package has all the different viewpoints, STUCO members, donators, and people that are unable to donate.

Constructive - The B-roll didn't have much variety and didn't set itself apart from others.

Conlin

Positive - The angle you had was very intriguing and differed from the common package view.

Constructive -The voice overs seemed to be awkward and didn't transition very efficiently from soundbite to soundbite.

Cyle

Positive - The interviews were varied and didn't leave the viewer wanting to know more from people who experienced the process.

Constructive -Voice over mentioned someone who hadn't donated before and what they might experience and continued on to someone who confirmed that they had donated before.

Jake

Positive - You explained the situation of someone who cannot or will not donate quite effectively.

Constructive - In Austin's first shot, the improper lower third was used and made the name unreadable.

Delaney

- N/A -

Abbey

Positive - The explanation of the process from start to finish was well put together and was relatively cohesive.

Constructive -The final quote at the end of the package was cut off before the speaker could complete their thought.

Amy

Positive - The interviews had great content to inform and entertain the viewer.

Constructive -The audio levels were everywhere and need to be equalized throughout.

Chelsea

Positive - You had a unique take on a botched donation from last year that separated you from the rest of the class.

Constructive -There was a cough in one of your interviews and I'm not sure if it is in your control to quiet it and keep the interview heard.

Alyssa

Positive - The interviews were varied and kept the viewer interested and didn't say the same thing repeatedly.

Constructive - Only during interviews was there nat noise, you seemingly muted it during your voice overs.

Personal Reflection

Overall I think I finished the package in too much of a rush and it seemed quite rough and was definitely not my best possible work. It didn't meet time requirements, it didn't have a variety of J and L edits, and it certainly was lacking audio leveling and substance. I hope to put in a little more effort for the next package and get a little more time on the camera to satisfy the shots I need. I know now that the questions can also be even more personal than I made them depending on how comfortable someone is.

Creative Anarchy Review

This article is about how the rules of design need to be known before being broken. These rules should be broken in the right way for the scope of the project. The author claims that poor design creates chaos. This is true, because if certain important rules aren't followed and a design is made improperly, the world that sees it will not understand it. It is important to know the rules and only bend or break the rules of design. Denise Bosler uses examples of rules from everyday life that are crucial and anecdotes of actual client scenarios to support her argument.

Much of the article is well written and I can relate to. Unfortunately some paragraphs contradict one another in the way they are written. The article also seemed quite vague when mentioning the actual rules of design. They were never clearly stated.

Ms. Bosler concludes that a project is never complete until the creative anarchist within is fully satisfied. The designs one creates should never stop evolving and a designer's learning is never finished. She states that designs should be outside of the box and more personal and relatable. I enjoyed the article, it was very intriguing and involved. It was a fascinating point of view on design. The author argues that each idea should begin with previous creations and then your idea should be similar but changed in a risky way. And always keep your eyes open to new ways of creating.

The overall article was interesting and well written but sometimes contradicted itself. I enjoyed it and connected with it throughout reading and annotating. I also learned things I can apply later to design class.

Silhouette Overlay Tutorial

Before I begin with the tutorial, I would like to show you the final product to give you a simple idea of what the finished product can look like.

The concept is to put something as a silhouette with words over a photo that helps to create the environment around the silhouette and sets the tone of the lettering used.

First begin by creating a new document, as seen above. I just created it as a normal piece of paper although you can make it any size you want as it will be finished as the size of a photo you choose.

After you have created your document begin brainstorming different ideas for the lettering and overall concept, I will be showing you the bird "Free as a Bird."

Once you have chosen your concept, simply search for the main subject (in this case the bird) and the background (in this case the sky and sun photo).

These are the two photos I will use.

Drag or copy and paste your first photo (the bird) into your document. Then, using the pen tool with no fill, outline the subject (the bird) fully.
Once this is done, remove the photo and fill the outline in black. Take away the stroke and select the Blob Brush tool. Give it a white fill and write whatever you would like on the black subject. In this case the bird will have "free as a bird" on it.

Now drag in the the secondary background photo (the sky here). Then resize it and place it behind the main subject. The only thing left to do is select everything but the background photo and make the opacity 80%.

You should then have something similar to this, you can move around the silhouette as you please in order to get the desired finished product.

Japanese Patterns

My motif is many different ellipses rotated five degrees. It then has squares and hexagons within it done in a similar fashion in one solid gray. It resembles some pieces on backs of cards. I was actually inspired by cards and simply started rotating ellipses to see how it looked. The idea of this project was to make something that radiates out from the center and creates a pattern.

My repeating pattern is hexagons and diamonds moving downward and left and right. It looks similar to beads that hang from doorways or streamers. I was inspired by a hexagon pattern that used multiple different colors but because it did, I couldn't use it here so I made my own. The idea was to make a pattern that repeated from all sides.

Pensacola News Journal Article Review

This article was about how a Florida newspaper became profitable after going through lay-offs and restructuring its entire process. The newspaper has changed from doing stories only about "bureaucratic bungling" to doing explanatory articles about things that matter in the community.

The author argues that the Pensacola News Journal is becoming a more profitable and enjoyable place to work. The evidence given are mostly quotes from people that help run the newspaper or gather stories to supply the newspaper. The article is strong when talking about how the business has soared after almost failing, but is weak when analyzed to see that many workers lost jobs and raised unemployment for the sake of the paper. The author concludes that giving writers freedom in the newsroom helps to make the papers profitable and enjoyable.

The author did a splendid job of supporting her main point and gave significant evidence for them. Although, some statistics could have been added to show how the newsroom had improved. As a videographer one could get shots within the newsroom to show how the morale had been boosted by the changes intermixed with interviews. The article was well written and followed a clear path that helped keep the evidence organized.

The article itself was not one I would have chosen to read, it just doesn't jump out at me. After reading it though, I found it was an interesting perspective on the current problem newspapers are having. It was intriguing and had good diction. Overall the article did well.

Professional Video Review

In the work "London Brawling" by Freddie Wong, the main character, Freddie, accidentally swaps umbrellas with a mysterious man. A fight ensues as men with handguns come around a corner and Freddie discovers the properties of this special umbrella. He defeats the men as he gets used to the umbrella that is also a weapon, shield, and umbrella. It was an incredibly entertaining piece.

The work did a nice job with the framing of its shots. Many shots were using the rule of thirds properly and I would like to takeinteresting wide and over the shoulder shots that are similar to those used in this piece. Freddie Wong did a good job telling the story and keeping the shots short to entertain the viewer. He began with the swap of the umbrellas to explain how the fight occurred and showed what happened during the fight and after. Although many parts were well done, some of the shots cut off the characters' heads or centered them.

Overall the video itself was extremely entertaining and told the story well enough that shots that were only decent did not catch my eye as bad. I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing this piece and will look forward to seeing upcoming works by Freddie Wong.

Pencil Designs

 Pencil Designs

While creating these designs I was looking at the instructions extremely closely at first. I needed the directions in order to make these pencils and the cases. I then evolved and my memory and creative process allowed for me to create the color scheme and paper design seen in the second image. My design process then combined fully with my creative aspects in order to create the guitar case and amplifier. I had to think hard for something to accompany the guitar case.
I knew that making these designs would help me to learn things and improve as a graphic designer. Starting at the cup and pencil with written and in depth directions, then moving to a personal pencil, and finishing with something completely different that applies these skills was the way learning should always be, start with directions and slowly apply it until you are doing it with something that is a 180 degree flip from the directions.

There were many things I learned from this project that I will most definitely apply to my future works. I will only be explaining a few of these skills. One thing I learned was a helpful keyboard shortcut, command+d, that redoes what was previously done to the selected item. This is helpful when one is trying to make perfectly spaced and duplicated
items. Another thing I learned from this project was how to make something that isn't a single shape filled. This uses the live paint tool. The third and final thing I learned from this project was that shading different portions of objects and even applying gradients to a drop shadow helps to add more dimension to the object and the entire design.

Michalea Weight Lifting Video

The premise of the project "Michaela" was to show that an average teenage girl can be an extraordinary weight lifter. It shows what she does and that her father is her coach. The project helps illustrate how the father and daughter relationship is altered when both are in the gym. It also shows how it brings the family together and makes Michaela (the lifter) happy.

The work is generally well put together from a design point of view. Most shots do use the rule of thirds and place the subject in the frame properly. Shots such as the one pictured on the left are accurate representations of well placed and filmed shots. This work has some very nice looking shots while others are a little too wide or too close for the shot to meet the standards of the shot it was to be. Shots such as the one below are much too close to be an accurate close up, for the interviewee's head is being cut off.

This project had a very interesting story about an unlikely heavy-weight lifter, a young woman. Her and her family are drawn closer together by her participation and her father's coaching. The story is told well with multiple representations of what people think about Michaela lifting and how it is affecting the community. Shots of the weights and her training as well as competing help to tell the story as well and do a wonderful job of this. The voice overs also help to bring more understanding to the minds of the viewers and help round out the creator's way of storytelling.

I learned many things from analyzing this piece of work. One of these things was that not every shot needs to be focused on the subject, sometimes the camera is focused on the weights. I will apply this to my works to add more depth to them. While I learned from this deep look into this work, I also found things that I had already learned. Much of the framing I saw I had already learned, which can be seen above.

The creator did many things well in within this short project. The project showed a definitive subject focus and kept the viewer entertained for the allotted time because of the way shots were continuously being played through behind audio. Much of this project was done well, sometimes though, framing was an issue. The reason framing shots wasn't done as well as it could have been was because some shots were hard to identify because the hips were shown but not the feet, leading the viewer to wonder if it was meant to be a medium or wide shot.

In the end, the project did the job it was created to do. It entertained the viewer and told the story of the subject accurately. While it could have been framed more properly, that did not take away from the story as much as bad audio could have been. I personally enjoyed the story involved and was intrigued by it.

What Is Graphic Design

Graphic design is a way of expression and communication through images and other graphics. It is a technological form of art. It is about making certain things display a message either via typography or visual effects. Graphics also help pass on feelings from the creator to the the viewer. Graphic design applies to everyone and everything. Nearly every product on the market has some sort of design on it, anything from cars to cracker boxes.

Graphic design connects with me by way of how I express myself and communicate my thoughts to others. I use music but sometimes it isn't enough to convey what I want. I prefer graphic design because it allows for me to write things and show specific messages that directly relate to something else. I also connect through representation. I like how graphic design allows for me to represent different countries, companies, people, and places. Graphic design is so free flowing and has many freedoms, there is truly no limit to how much you can do with graphic design. Everyone with a business or product needs a logo and I love that it allows for my creativity to flow.

e-Communication Final Project

When I was in the graphic design strand I was in charge of making the website banner. I knew I wanted one specific color, but I needed it to be interesting and dynamic. I began working on a radial gradient to give the banner a central point, after this development I wanted to add some contrast and a little bit of texture. So I browsed the internet and added a simple overlaid chevron. It helped add character to the banner. After adding our our company name, logo, and slogan I put a drop shadow on all of them in order to finish it up.

After completing my web banner, my group needed help on some text for the website. Our sidebar needed a reasonable amount of text and my group had asked me to do it. I wrote up a simple description of our company and website. I listed a few things that can be found on the website to give the customer an idea of what to look for on the site. I then passed the file on for revisions and editing before going on the website.
When I was in the animation strand I was in charge of creating the entire set. I was to give surroundings for our product that not only made sense, but were also aesthetically pleasing. I made a small desk for the product to be placed on and build up the room around it. The small things the trim on the floor made a huge difference in the overall feel of the room. I also added a cup with a couple pens, two stacks of paper, and a book. Colors made a huge difference. I wanted the room to be somewhat dull in order for the product and packaging would be the focal point.
When we were in the video strand, I was the lead actor and a consultant for storyline and framing. We developed the idea for how to have the friends appear and what to have me do. Our group knew we needed me to look shy on camera whenever I was without my friends, this is why I seem boring and somewhat emotionless when doing my interview. I was meant to look shy because I was without my friends.

This project forced us to work together in groups that we were not allowed to choose. This meant that we had to work together professionally and try to problem solve well. This meant our communication skills had to improve because otherwise things wouldn't get done within our group. I learned that it is better to avoid conflict within our group or try to find a solution for it quickly because otherwise group cohesion begins to fall away. Our group was not one for confrontation which meant our presentation ran more smoothly.

The scope of this project was to use all of the things we had learned previously in e9 to create and advertise a product. As a group random ideas were thrown out and eventually we settled on Friends in a Bottle. Then we began storyboarding our video and drawing rough logo ideas on paper. Once we had filmed our video we had a different idea of what we wanted our logo to be. After the animation was put together we decided what our product was all about. I began learning how to communicate better as we went and then we moved on to graphic design. Our logo was simple and beautiful. I learned that having others in a group to suggest things and look over your work helped to improve everything you do, especially when they are more critical.

Next time I would make the group communicate more and collaborate more to combine our ideas. We had trouble combining our ideas into one product, everything came out looking like we were making things individually. I would keep our group conversations about design and things the same, we chose fonts and designs as a group vote making it fair as well as consulting our instructor to make sure our designs and ideas worked well. Next time I hope to use better communication skills to make the group products look like they were made as a group. In the end it was an enjoyable project that built upon my skills as a student.

Friends in a Bottle Commercial

My commercial is advertising our product, Friends in a Bottle. This product is for people that lack friends or their friends are much too busy. When the customer receives the bottle they must open it and drink at least a sip. After the substance has had time to process what has happened 3 friends appear depending on what bottle has been purchased. In the commercial the bottle has a yellow strip signifying that the friends will be a mix of boys and girls that should be compatible with the customer's personality. The friends will then proceed to join the customer and do activities with the customer. Talking, playing games, and helping with homework are just a few functions that these friends can do. They are just like real friends but they are much more available and enjoyable. Fights are very uncommon as we have made sure that the friends will be as friendly and kind as possible.

Video This Quarter

This quarter of school, I went into the video strand of Olathe Northwest's e-Communications program. I learned many different things in this class that will help me to actively pursue a role in video, these things were the six shot system, the impact of audio or music in a video or short, and shortcut keys I can apply in editing. If you wish to find out more about those specifics please watch the above video. I also mention in this video that I learned things about how I communicate with others and how others communicate with me and talk about how I learned the most about social dynamics. I hope to use these newly acquired social skills in my everyday life and in all of my classes, not just in e-comm or school. I can't wait to begin creating more of my own videos for youtube and the world to see.

The Chase Scene

During this project I learned that I must record my shots for a longer amount of time in order to make them look better. I also learned that when you are in a group it is hard for everyone to agree on just one vision for a video. I will apply my editing skills and my framing to the video in order to continue to improve upon what I have already learned and applied to this video and the videos previous. The collaboration in this video was completely different because when there are 3 people and they are all creating one video it makes it harder to collaborate. For my next project I hope to get along a little better with my actors or peers because it will help me create a better video. This will allow for better overall shots and a much better overall video production and feeling.

2 Actions w/ Ava Yerkes

While filming this project I learned that I must be creative with my shots and how I get them. I may need to use books to support my camera instead of the tripod because i want to be much lower to the ground in comparison to the height of the tripod. I also learned that when you tell your subject what to do you must be very clear about that you mean. For my next project I hope to add creativity and make my shots look much nicer than they do now. Our group did worked well together and collaborated, or cooperated, with each other extremely well. The group had a friendly air and allowed for both of us to be quite comfortable in our space. I believe if we worked together again I believe it would work out just as well as it did previously. Overall, I enjoyed this project and my group.

6 Shot System Video

The video above shows one continuous video using shots from a system. These shots are:
Extra Close Up - A shot that show detail and what the hands are doing
Close Up - A shot that shows just the subjects face and their emotions
Over The Shoulder - A shot that shows what the person is doing while showing the back of their head
Medium Shot - A shot where the subject is shown from the waist up
Wide Shot - A shot with someone's whole body shown and what they are doing with little background
Extra Wide Shot - A shot showing the whole subject and their surroundings

While doing this project I learned how to use the six shot system and why it is used. I also learned how to import music from a new website. I will use the newly learned system and the sounds and music in all of my upcoming videos by putting all of the clips into a nice order and creating a well-made story.

Highlight Video

This is my YouTube highlight video. I created it by getting clips off of the internet along with music and adding them into Final Cut Pro. In Final Cut Pro, I learned how to cut videos in half using the blade tool, I learned how to disconnect audio from video in order to add my own audio, and I learned how to use the placement toll to move clips to anywhere on the timeline.

I chose this hobby because it is one of my true passions. Many times when I am bored or feeling down, I pick up one of my guitars and just play. It is a way for me to express myself and I love learning new chords or riffs. Seeing my ability blossom as I go is also a great experience, going from novice to a more intermediate player was amazing. It is important to me because I can let out anger or pain without hurting myself or others and helps me get through rough times. Sometimes my guitar is my entire life. Overall, music is my life, bands, trumpet and guitar are my life. That is why I chose this hobby to showcase.
